Tapped into a new genre
It’s been nice to see myself progress with the way I’m better able to isolate muscle parts and contract them with better precision. Since progress peeped up with greater visibility, the sweet taste of accomplishment wasn’t after all, too far of a hanging fruit.
It’s also been fascinating to hear my instructor comment on points of comparison between CrossFit, functional, and weightlifting/bodybuilding moves. The difference is vast, so much so that I’ve begun sensing a more gamelike element in the structure of CrossFit WODs. (Contrary to the far more measured nature of each and every breath and flexion in weightlifting endeavors.) Another aspect I’m both delighted and surprised to discover in weightlifting is the way it caters differently for every person and physicality. Even slight adjustments can either vary the targeted muscle, or assist (or to account for) personal variations in physique. How wide is the spectrum of applicability? I can only venture that combinations are countless, endlessly variable.
A little stray from the usual
A review session I made space and the time for in a very intentional manner. Instead of my fixed routine of heading to the 8 o’clock CrossFit class, I headed to Bysec with thoughts of going over the past 2-3 weights poses learned in personal Gymtown sessions. That evening at Sweat on (CrossFit, 6 pm) has been roughly reviewed here.
Most were from yesterday’s session, as listed in handwritten form below, and one before that last week. There was an unexpected one or two — the lying chest raises on the bench — from this past session.
The last item listed with the grip(s) drawn turned out to be a face-pull down, which I’d more or less forgotten about. Had I not rediscovered the move by chance at the gym earlier, it may not have registered properly, still.
Nice surprises from the session
Managed to get myself on some leg machines
Found a corner with pull-up bars (yes this is the gym I’ve been to more than 8 times — that’s how large and overwhelmingly equipped it is)
Rediscovered the newly learned face pull-down, by chance
Felt a yet-again, renewed sense of love for the sheer energy, the teeming vibrancy of dopamine-bursting CrossFit exercises
Drills to drill them in
Now’s the time for what I know to be best at: rise, rinse, repeat.
To hone in on those moves, reiterating via physical action is the only real practice that’ll effectivley keep myself accountable to mastering them.
Slated for the immediate future
More mindful sessions and repetitions at the equipment-based gym would be my goal for the immediate time being, seeing that Gymtown lessons will near its end as too will my stay times in Gangnam, with Clean Rm/launch slated for less than a week from now. Already a bit sad about it, but professionally, these prospects excite me a bit, too.

Review of (3-way) pull-ups, featured as the second item on the list:
- widest grips = most difficult;
- standard (usual way/1.5x shoulder width) = second;
- closest grips = least difficult of the three. (targets the sort of? spinal?? region)
